What Is CrossFit

WHAT IS CROSSFIT? CrossFit is the sport of fitness. It means something different every day, but every day is measurable and observable. The training is constantly varied but not random and scaled to meet individuals skill level. Members are not just members they are part of a community committed to the same common goals – living healthy, active lifestyles and inspiring others to do the same.

Some days CrossFit will feel like a classroom and some days it will feel like you just won a gold medal. The training will be challenging. Isn’t it suppose to be that way? At the box the shared experiences of putting it all on the line, the struggling, the suffering, the perseverance, the joy of setting a personal record, the excitement of competition, the camaraderie and physical and mental transformation that takes place from personal effort and dedication create an intensity and community that are unequivocally unique to CrossFit.

What kind of training is this? At CrossFit Chronic we train to go. Strength is at the heart of our programming. Flexibility is programmed everyday. We regularly lift heavy, tactile, and/or odd shape things. You’ll learn quickly ‘cardio’ comes from more than just running. The movements/exercises are constantly varied (not random) and performed at high intensity. The 10 areas of focus are Cardiovascular Endurance, Speed, Stamina, Power, Strength, Flexibility, Coordination, Accuracy, Agility and Balance. And we employ a variety of methods like body weight exercises, gymnastics and olympic lifting. Our training is practical (natural movement) and smart (time efficient).

PRACTICE. TRAIN. MASTER. Practice form, body weight, gymnastic movements, olympic lifts at light weight with less intensity. Train those movements and lifts until they become second nature. Master. Now you’re ready to add load and speed to create intensity. That is our recipe for everyone without regard to age or natural athletic ability.

Who CrossFits? The CrossFit methodology has something to offer everyone without regard to age or natural athletic ability. Scaling and modifying workouts are routine, making workouts appropriate for any one’s physical and psychological tolerances.

Measurable and observable. What does that mean? You’ll begin tracking and benchmarking from day one.   Practice up on your math because we measure everything we do. Times, loads, distances etc. As a CrossFitter you will use this information to determine your progress and success. See ‘KNOWLEDGE -tools/apps for CrossFit‘.

Our Coaches constantly cue movements and mechanics. They are tireless in their teaching efforts and demand your attention to detail. They’ll know when to pull you back or tell you to pick up the damn bar. They continue to improve their knowledge base because CrossFit and Coaching CrossFit is their passion. They know what if feels like to be where you are and you will find them often in the box doing the WOD along with other members. They practice what they preach. They are experienced, involved, and invested coaches.

With all this talk about learning, suffering and dedication, it’s important to note that fun happens at CrossFit Chronic regularly. We not only WOD together but socialize together, we do business with each other, we help each other out through family crisis and we have enough children between all of us to start a small private school. What happens out of the box is just as important as what happens in the box. We are more than just a team in training. We are CrossFit Chronic.
